Emily VanMaele

Professional Educator

Introduction

My name is Emily VanMaele and I am in the process of applying for student teaching through both my home college, Simpson College, and UNI. I have had numerous field experiences during my time at Simpson in a variety of classrooms. I am pursuing my Bachelors of Arts in Elementary Education at Simpson College (with endorsements in reading and social studies (k-6) as well) and also minoring in English. I have experience working with high school aged students, special needs, sixth graders, third graders, along with multiple experiences taking care of children (infants up to 10 year olds) at a day care. I enjoy spending time reading, dancing, and being with my close friends. I love travelling, art projects, and animals. I am already gearing up for entering finally into the profession I love so much.

My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a student teacher will be to help students discover his or her individuality and work with them to take full advantage of learning through discovery. I believe in hands-on experiences, learning creatively and learning through play. I am really looking forward to another fun-filled and educational experience! I am so excited to get this opportunity not only to better my education but make a difference in a classroom. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Best Regards,

Emily VanMaele

Why I Want to Teach Abroad

My desire to student teach in an international setting has developed from my dream to teach abroad . My ambition for international teaching was only furthered when I got the chance to travel abroad Fall of 2009. I fell in love on my travels and felt an unshakable desire to continue my ambition. To further educate myself, I took the opportunity in England to talk to local people about the education system and their experiences. I also looked into trying to setup an observation experience, but was unable to due to time constraints. Upon returning, I have an increasing interest in exploring other education systems besides the one I have experienced. I feel that one can learn many beneficial things from studying and experiencing multiple education systems. When I learned that I could complete my student teaching through programs such as UNI's program, I knew I could not let such a wonderful, beneficial experience pass me by.
